About Aya

In the previous article, we explored the physical and mental symptoms of low emotional resilience. Here we will touch on the emotional symptoms associated with low emotional resilience. In addition, we will see how the nature of experience-based understanding, which I use in coaching emotional resilience, is backed by over forty years of research that confirms its life-changing nature.

Emotional symptoms:

1.     Anxiety or depression- You often feel sad, and sometimes you experience the sudden urge to cry for no apparent reason.

2.     Irritability and anger are the most common giveaway signs and can result in conflict at home and work. However, this can also be an overreaction to stress, as you feel overwhelmed by minor irritants manifesting as road rage and other risky behaviors.

3.     Moodiness- A low mental and psychological state can affect our bodily hormones and lead to mood swings as our hormones go through periods of highs and lows.

4.     Becoming isolated or clingy -as resilience plummets, many avoid social interaction or become overly dependent on family and friends. You feel like you need to isolate yourself from others as a defense mechanism. However, social support is crucial for a healthy mental state.

Resilience From the Inside Out

Most approaches to resilience aim to instill competency and resilience from the outside using techniques such as positive affirmations, positive behavior support, and mindfulness-based interventions. While beneficial, they seem to fall short of recognizing our built-in resilience system. Instead, they have based their strategies on the hypothesis that the human capacity for resilience is not inherent but the byproduct of diverse external determinants, genetic factors, personal qualities, social conditioning, and management strategies.

The nature of experience-based understanding affirms our innate resilience, the essence of a balanced healthy state of mind. The paradigm shift is initiated by helping individuals transform their relationship with their thinking. It happens as we acknowledge our ability to think rather than the content of our thinking. This understanding confirms that no matter how traumatic, no event cannot be overcome when seen from a higher level of consciousness. Hence, individuals reclaim their psychological freedom. Coping with stress or trauma pales in comparison to awakening our inborn psychological resilience. Coping requires considerable effort and the relief from symptoms tends to be short-lived and typically has drawbacks.

Evidence Base

The nature of experience-based understanding is backed by years of research and experience. It has been taught and researched for over forty years, proving this understanding is life-changing. The following are some outcomes reported in several mental health and psychology studies.

Mental Health

·        91% Reported being significantly more in control of their behaviors, thoughts, and feelings.

·        75% Reported being significantly less depressed.

·        82% Reported significant consistently (after six years) high self-esteem and positive changes in marriage and personal relationships.
